I'm trying to create an animated object (starting with the 3DGauge SVG) but when I run my transaction in the Workbench (12.0.4 (120)), I get a 'Unable to Render Animated Object: sun.awt.X11GraphicsEnvironment' error in the Animation Renderer action.
I created the Animated Object in the Workbench, added properties, calculated properties, linked them to the object and previewed it, all without error. (Well, I'm still trying to figure out why the rotate function linked to the needle transform gives unpredictable results but I think that's a separate issue.)
I browsed through Mikhail Knjazhev's thread from August 7th but the suggestions there didn't resolve my problem.
Any ideas?

Thanks, Matthias! I forwarded the 'headless' info on to our basis group. I'll let you know the results.
