The concept of BOM & Routing Version in Shop order-SAP ME

Dear Experts,

Kindly let me know the purpose and reason of BOM & Routing version in a Shop order of SAP ME.

In SAP ME defaults the first BOM to version A and increments an additional integer value for subsequent updates. For example: A-01, A-02.

If the following attributes of the ERP production order components differ from those in the Master BOM, creates a new version of BOM.

• Material numbers of ERP BOM item
• Components assigned to Operations
• Quantity of ERP BOM item

I have checked all possible ways but no clue on this.

Versions allow rolling changes, where a revision change to a BOM or routing won't affect previously released orders.

The reason this is disconnected from the versioning in ERP is because ME allows you to manually change a BOM or routing without an equivalent change in ERP.
