Symbols and pictograms in the specification workbench

Dear all,

I know that it is possible to add graphics to phrases for outputting pictograms on reports etc. I wonder if it is possible to add graphics to a phrase so that you can see the pictogram/symbol in the workbench when working with specifications?

by standard using the F4 help of a phrase based characteristic it is displayed to my knowledge:

1.) phrase text

2.) phrase code

3.) phrase remark

but the potentially available related graphic information (link to the file) is not displayed.

Potentially you could try to implement an "ouput variant" so that at least you get the information if there is a grahic linked to the phrase used in the value assignment (characteristic).

Potentially (you need to check): you could try to "exchange" the function module which is used in the "F4" dialog. In theory an option but not ! recommended.

Othere options might be this: during the "save" of a value assignment you have a number of exists you can "process". Using these exits you could try to "write" somehting in the user defined text (e.g. the list of graphis whcih are related to the phrases).

Next option (tricky but may be an option): in theory you "exchange" any sub screen using customizing (you can programm the "standrad "table control in a property by your self). Furthere option: I believe there are some "other" options available to "populate" som "infoe fields" in the table control of a propery of type A; please refer to customizing options. The explanations how to do this is "lengthy".

Personally I would propose the "output variant" option. You will not realize if or if not in the edit/display mode a phrase does have a linked graphic but using an output variant you can get the info "easily".

Thank you for your quick answer. I would prefer having the graphic displayed in the "F4-help" and in Value assignments for the characteristic making it a little more intuitive for the user. But SAP standard does not seem to have a solution for this. However, I will consider the proposed "output variant" that you suggested.

small add on: if you refer to e.g. you will realize that you can assign "grahics" etc. to value assignments as well using user defined text info. The same is true by the way if you consider identifiers (after a suitable set up of customizing).

If you are thinking only of graphics assigned to phrases this might be not enough;: so may be you should check your demands

PS: please we aware of the fact that you could exchange the "whole" look and feel of cg02 using customizing ativities (but you must prepare the wholöe logic by your own !!!) ; therefore you could "program" your one screens to maintain value assignments; further on: on the level of the value assignment you can use an user exit to show more information on the level of the value assignment instance; this exit is a further good option to be used (may be) and is no modification etc.. Benefit: user knows that a graphic is involved

but the F4 help as explaind shoud not be changed

PPS: from experince: if you enumerate the charactersitics available in SAP Standard tree you will count something like 1000 or more. Something lile 25 % (I did not count them) are phrase based. According to experience only a very small number of characteristics does have phrases whih have a linked graphic; therefore this need you have described from your customer point of view comes up only rarely; may be because of this fact no SAP solution is available.
