Has anyone attended the XMii training from SAP? If so how important is the second class (the lab class). My company wants to send me to training but are not sure about the importance of the second class. Also, can anyone give me an idea as to what to expect in both classes?

Thanks

Mike

Is the TPMII1 and TPMII2 based on xMII 11.5 or on version 12?

Hi Vincent - the current training courses are based upon 11.5. The version 12.0 makeover of the training materials is currently in process, but I don't have a timeline for when they will switchover.

If you are trying to familiarize yourself with 12.0 (especially since you have employee access) then I would recommend going through the ramp-up knowledge transfer materials: http://service.sap.com/rkt

I took the advanced and field enablement training. the advances training was valuable to get familiar with the product, but a little slow paced.Lots of step by step instruction. I think this was due to the mix of technical and non technical attendees. It was about two days of material stretched into a week.

The field enablement training was very good and more or less simulated real project environments sans the requirements gathering phase. No hand holding, but supported by xMII staff if you had any question or needed some hints. They also allowed you to concentrate on areas of xMII you felt you were more likely to be using in your job etc.

Are your classes the ones that correspond with these?

TPMII1 xMII Fundamentals

TPMII2 XMII Lab Workshop

If so, do you feel the second class was necessary for your job?

Thanks for your input, it will help me prepare for the classes I need to take.

One more question, was the second class more technical or functional? I am a technical person but they are looking to send one functional person to training and want to know should the functional person attend both classes or should I attend both classes.

Thanks, again

It looks like the training program has changed a lot since I have been there, so I guess my comments may not apply. Sorry about that.

If you don't have a person with xMII experience to help you out, I think it is definetly worth taking both classes.

If you do have someone to mentor/guide you, the xMII tools ( and help files ) are good enough that you could succeed without the classes. I am assuming you have a resonable technical background (XML, Javascript, XPath, SAP etc..)

Thanks, I am mostly technical with SAP and XI. I have done some XML, Javascript so I think I will be ok.

Mostly just looking for feedback on the training to help guide my company as to where the money would be best spent. Since we have no one here with any XMII experience I am hoping they see that both classes will be necessary.

Thanks

Michael,

Here are a few things to consider:

1. What are your short and or long term company objectives for utilizing xMII?

2. What types of data sources are you planning on interfacing to from the xMII server?

3. Are you considering involving an xMII integration partner for your project(s) or does your company intend to develop in-house skills to implement xMII yourself?

The formal education courses should provide a valuable foundational knowledge on xMII and hands on experience with a focus on content development. Both courses are technically oriented, but the second week attempts to go deeper into some of the more advanced topics, leveraging the fundamentals from the first week.

I took the do-it-yourself approach to learning xMII 18 months ago, but would now definitely recommend attending the classes as this is likely to help you avoid making mistakes early on and pick up on some of the "best practice" in this field.

For example, I have re-written my first BLS transaction 3 times now as my knowledge of the product has grown - I think the training could have helped avoiding some of the rework by getting it (close to) right the first time.

In that case I definitely recommend going to both. The cost is very reasonable and very good bang for the buck in my opinion.

You will be in a much better position to execute an xMII project, I would guess 3 to 5 times more efficient than starting from scratch. The investment will pay itself back with your first project.

Also, I think not having any background would make it near impossible to perform any kind of competent requirements gathering/architecture role.

Hi Hari, my class is not until September so I am not aware about this month's class. I do know that both the first and second class are being offered in Chicago in August because our Business Analyst is going to the first class.

Could you please post what you find out about your class here for me? Also, if you make it to the workshop in August could you please post about that class as well? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Hi, did you already go to the first class? Can you fill me in on what was covered and what I need to know about XMii and developing for it?

There is a Lab Class next week in Chicago and the one I will be attending the first week of October in Philadelphia. I will be attending both the Fundamental and Lab classes back to back when I am in Philadelphia.

Thanks for your input.

Hi Michael.

I have attended the first course in July and that is very easy for technical person.

You just need to have knowledge of sql,html,java,xml...
