SAP QDR <-> LIMS vs MII <-> LIMS

Hello MII Folks,

Recently I came to know that SAP can integrate with LIMS (laboratory information management system) using QDR (standard configuration in SAP) . This will enable RFC's to send data directly to LIMS system. In this scenario do we really need an integration layer such as MII between SAP and LIMS system? I would like to know what are the advantages when we integrate SAP with LIMS using MII (SAP <-> MII <-> LIMS) over QDR. I am looking for the pros and cons.

Any help on this very much appreciated

Thanks

Shaji

Hi Shaji,

The need for SAP MII with LIMS is most likely determined by whether there is data coming from the shop floor that needs to be processed in LIMS. And if so, the RFCs can be used by MII to transport the data that it can get from SCADA, PCo, etc. If LIMS only needs data from ECC (which I would not expect, but possible), then one would not need MII.
