Dear Experts,
I would like to know if PPM 6.0 can runs without HANA.
if yes, Do you know if there is any benefit of implement PPM 6.0 vs PPM 5.0 ( last SP level)?
Thanks!!
Request clarification before answering.
Hello Clara!
Yes, PPM 6.0 can run without HANA. Since SAP decided to go a non-disruptive way they made PPM 6.0 again ready to run on any DB like PPM 5.0 does. Inside the coding there are several 'switches' to check the existence of a HDB. So PPM 6.0 on HANA is able to boost the performance on (only) several scenarios (dashboards data load process, building of structure tree, etc...).
Also if you are not on HANA PPM 6.0 provides some (very) minor tunings on the ABAP side to increase performance.
On the functional side there were only minor enhancements since PPM 6.0 was a technical release to make PPM HANA-ready. E.g. in my opinion the biggest feature is, that you are able to archive in the PFM-part (bucket, element, initiative,..).
Please have a look to note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1826332 (part 2).
We decided not to go PPM 6.0, because we do not see any benefit for our business cases to use a PPM 6.0-installation with HANA (in correlation with the estimated costs for a HANA appliance). Moreover the lack of (really) new features that help (customers and) our business cases made our decision very easy.
Best regards,
Peter
