SAP MII vs SAP PO

Dear SAP,

I'm new to SAP world and still in the process of implementation.

One of my SI is recommending to use SAP PO instead of SAP MII as our integration layer to connect our MES to S/4 cloud instance (ST).

Please suggest is there any documentation describing the difference between the 2 products.

This kind of question comes up periodically and usually in response to some SI who knows nothing about MII, but has experience with PI (or PO). The integration of MES to ERP is exactly what MII was designed to do with many pre-built tools and functions. With PI, there would need to be much more custom development (and more money for the SI) and it probably would not work as well. And is often difficult to maintain or upgrade. Read the links Eli provided and especially Sam Castro's detailed response at the end of the second link. The post is ten years old, so you will understand my first sentence better in that context.
