SAP MII and SAP PI communication

Hi Experts,

In our landscape we have SAP PI integration with SAP MII. We want to find out the following points:

1) How to setup the Session Timeout for the call from SAP MII to SAP PI. We are using HTTP XI action block for sending the details. What happens in SAP MII when the timeout takes place

2) Is there is way in which we can check if SAP PI is up and running before getting into processing of the transaction

We are using SAP MII 15.0 SP 6 Patch 0.
