SAP DM User concept on shop floor

Hello SAP DM experts,

How is the user concept generally implemented in relation to the shop floor?

According to the documentation, it is planned that each operator has an individual user access and thus access to the work center PODs.

As the intention is to install terminals on the shop floor, this would mean that each operator would have to log in and out of the terminal for each booking. This concept is not feasible.

The question therefore arises as to whether a possible alternative is to perform the login via a collective user, e.g. "Terminal 1", and to record the confirmations by requesting the user ID. However, according to the documentation, this function is only available for activity confirmations and not for yield oder scrap confirmations.

Unfortunately there is no specific information on this. I need the intended concept/SAP Best Practices.

Hi! Keep an eye on 'Access to the POD Pages with the Badge' capability in What´s New Viewer , which is coming up in 2408 Release and planned to be enhanced in the following releases, where you can enable individual POD Pages with specific plugins to request Badge number before being opened.

There is as always no straight answer to the question other than it depends on your exact requirements particularly in regards to traceability. For example if you want traceability of who did what then the operators will have to log in using unique accounts otherwise you cannot have traceability. If this level of traceability is not required then you could consider using a generic account but this will mean you will lose certain functionality such as time tracking , labor scheduling etc.

Yes I agree it is often very difficult for operators to keep logging into a system especially if they move from one work station to another. When I used to work for a living (before becoming a consultant lol) in a real factory I overcame that issue using "zero clients" (https://www.techtarget.com/searchvirtualdesktop/definition/zero-client) rather than PCs on the shop floor, this meant that the operators desktop would move from station to station with them. This worked really well and several other of our factories copied the approach.
