Good day @arturo_suarez

Thank you for your question.

Have a look at the following references

Engineering Change Hierarchy, Engineering Change Management, Manage Change Masters

Generally, SAP does permit deletion of characteristics once you have used it in a configuration instance. Also considering the public cloud follows a clean-core approach (where the system does not permit any structural changes if it impacts historical configuration records) and dependency, SAP protects historical configuration data and thereby prevents you from deleting.

However, you can use Engineering Change Management to overcome the limitation. You cannot perform this change directly without a change number. You can remove or deactivate the characteristic when you use change number.

First, you have to use Create Engineering Change Number. Make sure your Valid from date is equal to your date of structural change, ensure your change type is classification.

Second, ensure you maintain configurable material, edit profile, enter your change number and remove the characteristics from the profile.

Next is to update the class assignment. Enter the change number you created, go to characteristics tab, select the characteristic and remove it. Now the system will permit the change because ECM is controlling the version.

Alternatively, you can deactivate the characteristic by entering the change number and set status to inactive.

Good day @arturo_suarez

Apologies for the delayed response. To ensure your follow-up questions are correctly directed , please ensure to use the @ options to tag the person.

Following up on your question, the public cloud does not allow you to delete a characteristics that you have already used in configuration. The system tries to protect historical data consistency and therefore blocks you from deleting it.

Even with an ECN, you will still have some restrictions except:

  • You select the correct Change Type and Object Tpyes in the change master.
  • The chosen change number is valid for the classification object and your navigation to classification context is correct.

These steps should enable you delete once you have set the change number and object properly. Should you still not be able to delete it, then ensure as mentioned above that the characteristics has not been used in any active configuration.

Step 1:

In your ECN, the change type to choose is 300 and your validity date should be today or in the future, then save it.

Step 2:

In your ECN, open your change number, go to object types tab, ensure you select/check the classification checkbox, make sure the object type row is not greyed out and save.

Step 3:

In your Manage Classes app, enter your class,

go to characteristics tab, enter the change number at the top.

Now you should be able to delete. Either you delete the characteristics or you set the status to inactive if deletion is still restricted. You can do that by using the Display values icon to confirm usage dependencies should you not be able to delete.

Should you still face issues with deleting it after fulfilling those requirements, I suggest you raise a ticket with SAP.

Best regards

Chris
