Hello, hoping anyone can help.
We are implementing an on-premise version of S/4 to our customer - S/4HANA 2023 on-premise, which includes the new S/4 for Product Compliance module.
I understand that it is a solution still in development with new innovations drip-feeding in every quarter (for cloud) / year (for on-premise).
One key feature we are interested in is the ability to generate safety data sheets from the maintained product data. I see that this functionality is available in Cloud 2408, and it looks like it might not be available on 2023 On-premise (if anyone can confirm this then that would be great). If this feature is not in 2023, then what is the alternative to generate a safety data sheet? I have seen in a recent blog alluding to relying on an external system to generate, then upload into S/4HANA Product compliance. Does anyone know if S/4HANA Product Compliance can be integrated to the external system e.g. send compliance/ safety data from S/4HANA to the external system , generate the sheet on that external system, then upload into S/4HANA? And if so, what external system is used?
Thanks, and looking forward to your responses

Hello Shashi,
thanks for your interest in the new SAP S/4HANA for product compliance solution.
You are right, the functionality to generate safety data sheets (SDS) is not available with the new product compliance solution in on-premise 2023 (OP2023). You can use the classic Report Management in the Product Safety module as alternative.
With CE2408 and OP2025 the basic functionality to generate safety data sheets (SDS) including a starter template will be available in the new solution. We plan to work on the data missing as input for the safety data sheet step by step, as well as on other important SDS topics like multi component products or branded products (see roadmap explorer).
For the SDS shipment you have two alternatives with OP2023. You can use the classic Report Shipping in Product Safety which is integrated in the classic logistics transactions. This is a valid option if you do not plan to use the new Fiori apps for logistics (mandatory for integration of the new dangerous goods solution into logistics).
As second option our solution supports a hybrid approach with the new product compliance solution. The shipping is then integrated in the new Fiori app for the goods issue. For the hybrid approach you will need to implement the synchronization of base safety data sheets via a Public API and implement a BAdI to generate the final SDS (including product and company specific data) with the classic generation approach via WWI. As a benefit of this approach you can receive and process requests from logistics, view information about the availability of safety data sheets for a single product in a world map, analyze the SDS availability, and monitor shipments.
I hope this helps.

Hello
i propsose to check SAP marketplace. You will find there a clear roadmap for "on premise" and "cloud" looking to the future (there exists a OSS note in which the road map is described): BUT any roadmap is documenting only the current status of progress and the planned next steps but the roadmap can change at any point in time
Regarding your question
1.) in On premise S/4 hana release 2023 you can upload SDS and sent SDS to the customer (details. check On line help)
2.) The "data model" to handle SDS data is not final now; this will take some releases to complete; and later SAP will deploy an option to generate in the system a SDS
In a nutshell: Check status of the software wih SAP. If you would like to use the software soon... you should use "cloud version". Here you well get much faster new functionality.
The next on prem version can be expected roughly in november 2025.
SAP is currently creating here many new blogs regarding the software

Hi Christoph and Saskia.
Thank you both for your detailed responses.
To be clear, we will only be implementing on-premise 2023. Cloud will not be an option.
To explore Saskia's recommendation for alternatives further, can you check the below to make sure I understand what you said correctly?
1. Product data is maintained in product compliance module on compliance view / "CCI" - phrases, composition etc
2. Use external application such as WWI for SDS design and connect the product compliance module to it via API/BADI. Data gets sent to that application to generate the SDS
3. Upload the SDS in the product compliance module
Thanks
Hi Shashi,
let me precise the steps for a hybrid approach for SDS:
1. Basic product data is maintained in product compliance module on compliance view / "CCI" (composition, purpose, ...) and used for product marketability, dangerous goods and / or SDS management and shipment
2. SDS data including phrases is maintained in the classic solution --> basic compliance data needs to be synchronized between the two solutions (CCI, composition ...)
3. Use WWI for SDS design based on the data from the classic solution. If you use dangerous goods (DG) in the new solution, use the available public API to read the DG data from the new solution.
4. Upload the raw report / base SDS with compliance data (RTF format) to SDS assessments in the product compliance module via public API
5. During the SDS shipment use the BAdI to call the final SDS generation of the classic solution. The final SDS additionally contains product and company data.
If you have a chance to join our annual SAP EHS & Product Compliance Infodays 2024 (virtually) on the 25 September (2nd day), you can get more information on the two available solutions that additionally support such a hybrid approach:
Best regards,
Saskia
