We process 20' sticks of steel channel "L" shape, and 90% of that stick is processed through our anglemaster. However, due to limitations of the machine, the remaining 10% of the steel channel must processed through the saw and ironworker. How do I reflect this in the router?

Hi!

Not sure if I fully understand your case.

If each stick is a separate SFC, then the question is how you execute actions on those 90% and remaining 10% of the unit. If you do not physically separate 90%-part and 10%-part, then it is the same single SFC, otherwise you need to split the SFC. If it is the same SFC, then you need to clarify whether the actions can be done in parallel or sequentially. For a parallel processing, you can use Simultaneous Group step with these 2 activities inside, or Any Order Group step.

Sergiy,

Good morning!! My apologies for not explaining correctly.

First, I assume that an SFC is the same as a part number that we would run in manufacturing?

Secondly, the remaining 10% of the stick has to be completed sequentially as it comes from the original stick of material. I do not want to make another operation in current state as I don't want SAP to run the entire order thru the saw and ironworker, since it has a longer processing time, SAP would add an unnecessary amount of hours to the work center capacity. Future state can change if need be in order to accurately reflect what the floor does.

Next, let us assume we are using part number X123.

As part number X123 begins processing thru the anglemaster 90% of the metal stick gets processed normally, this process is the optimal way to process, so we will complete as much as possible. At the moment the router says that 100% gets processed this way and the costing is going off of this router. However, this does not reflect what is actually done on the manufacturing floor and the cost does not take into account the extra required process of the saw, so we are always going to see a variance in the labor.

Is there a way to specify in the router that 90% will go thru the anglemaster and the rest thru the saw and have the cost accurately reflect the cost and to correctly load capacity on the work center?

Hi Jim!

Actually SAP ME does not deal with costs, so it would be good to understand what data you actually collect in POD of SAP ME to convert into costs. If it is just about qty of the SFC, then you might consider a relaxed routing with 2 parallel (optional) steps, where 90% will go to the first step but other 10% will go to the second. Selection of the step will be done by the operator who completes the previous step (for example).

If you collect times by means of LT380 on SFC Complete, then you can process thee steps sequentially with the full qty but specifying as much time as you actually need to process the SFC at each step.
