Dear Experts,

We have activated "Carryout Mass change" Menu option in Tcode IW39, i would like to know what risks do we have by activating this functionality.

Thanks in advance.

I think Clinton Jones does a good job explaining risks with mass change here: https://blogs.sap.com/2011/02/14/the-problems-with-mass-actions-with-sap-data/

Especially this from him:

"Effective mass create and change strategies, whether they are applied to transactional or master data are typically bound up not just by technology but also by responsibility, accountability and process. This means that people engaged in these activities should firstly understand why they are performing an action, understand the underlying dependencies within the business and technology on what they are doing and then understand the strengths and limitations of the technologies that they are going to use to perform these actions. I can’t stress enough, the importance of having a solid execution, backup and recovery and risk mitigation plan – all of this dovetailed with a comprehensive testing plan. Unfortunately though, there still seems to be a largely “fire and forget” or wing and a prayer mode of thinking when it comes to the execution of mass change and create activities and these are being applied in productive environments!"

Good luck

Decide along your business procedures which authorizations you need.

Check also your roles and authorizations and who is allowed to use the following path:

Path 1
Logistics → Production → Capacity Planning → Requirements → Maintenance Order → Order → Order List → Display

Path 2
Logistics → Production → Capacity Planning → Requirements → Maintenance Order → History → Order list → Display

Path 3
Logistics → Plant Maintenance → Maintenance Processing → Order → Order List → Display

Path 4
Logistics → Plant Maintenance → Maintenance Processing → History → Order list → Display

Path 5
Logistics → Plant Maintenance → Information System → Report Selection → Maintenance Processing → Display Orders

Path 6
Logistics → Quality Management → Test Equipment Management → Calibration Inspection → Order → Order List → Display Data

Path 7
Logistics → Logistics Controlling → PM Information System → Report Selection → Maintenance Processing → Display Orders

Path 8
Logistics → Project System → Resources → Capacity Requirements Planning → Requirements → Maintenance Order → Order → Order List → Display

Path 9
Logistics → Project System → Resources → Capacity Requirements Planning → Requirements → Maintenance Order → History → Order list → Display

Path 10
Accounting → Project System → Resources → Capacity Requirements Planning → Requirements → Maintenance Order → Order → Order List → Display

Path 11
Accounting → Project System → Resources → Capacity Requirements Planning → Requirements → Maintenance Order → History → Order list → Display

Path 12
Information Systems → General Report Selection → Plant Maintenance → Maintenance Processing → Display Orders

Path 13
Logistics → Plant Maintenance → Maintenance Processing → Order → Inspection Processing → Environment → Information System → Plant Maintenance → Maintenance Tasks → PM Order → List

Path 14
Logistics → Customer Service → Service Processing → Order → Inspection Processing → Environment → Information System → Plant Maintenance → Maintenance Tasks → PM Order → List

Path 15
Information Systems → Logistics → Plant maintenance → Maintenance Tasks → PM Order → List

To ensure compliance along your responsibility matrix there should be a SoD matrix who can see and who can change the orders.

Aditya S,

As with any mass-change function - you have the potential to mess up your data.

You can use authorisation object I_MASS to control who has access to this functionality.
