Read a File into xMII from a Windows Share Server

Hi all,

is there a possibility to read a file into xMII (12) from a Windows Share? We need to input a file from a Windows server which does not run a FTP server. On my client PC I can mount the remote folder in my Windows Explorer, but how can I load the file into xMII?

I have tried using the Text Loader, but either xMII adds the prefix "/usr/sap..." to the URL string or there is a connection error.

Regards

Michael

Michael,

Try mapping a network drive which will assign a drive letter to the network resource along with giving it access credentials and access it via the new path.

Hope this helps.

Hi Sam,

the way you describe works with my client PC. However, I am trying to input the file in a xMII tran (did I tell you that xMII runs on a Unix server?).

I guess we only have two possibilities:

- install a FTP Server in the Windows machine that hosts the files xMII should read

- let the Windows host execute a script to send the files to xMII

Otherwise I cannot get the remote files.

Michael,

Well it's a bit trickier on Unix to share but not impossible, you can install Samba ([http://samba.org|http://samba.org]) into your system. This is a File Sharing server and will allow windows, mac, etc.... OSes to see your shared folder across the network and also allow you to map it to a drive.

Just depends on how much you like Unix weather or not you want to try it

Hope this helps.

Sam

Sam,

actually we are running xMII on Netweaver on AIX. I asked our server colleagues if its possible to create a mount point for the windows server. Then we can use e.g. the text loader again in xMII, which only refers to local files.

I tell you if I know more about it.

Michael: Use FTP as your file sharing mechanism, not "file shares", and you should have no problems.

Rick,

the problem is that we do not own the server where the file is located (it is a customers server) and it seems to be a problem to install an FTP server there because it might conflict with other installed software. However, it seems to be the only possibility for us. Or we find a server where we can use FTP.

Hello Mike,

I know this post has been sitting there for like 7 years but I was wondering if you can remember what the solution was.

I find myself having a similar issue where our MII box is on Linux and we need to read/write files to a shared folder in the network. We always went with FTP when we faced that situation but this time we are trying the solution Sam mentioned above but no luck so far.

Anyways, if you could share what your experience was I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Ricardo
