Project Management End User Scenario

Hello Everyone,

I am very much new to project management. Using configuration guide( PPM 5.0) I completed basic configuration.  ( I am sure there might be something I am still missing ).

I familiarized with how to create Templates, Business Partners, sending an emails to the staff but I have very limited knowledge on maintaining resource management, scheduling the tasks (Grant Chart ), etc..

I was wondering , is there any end to end business scenario ( A document, Video, or Presentation ) available that I can use, to get familiarize with the features and functionality of project management ? 

It would be great help for me to move forward with learning PM !!

if you are looking for PPM 5.0 documentation have a look to http://help.sap.com/ppm50

It is the central entry for any information needed (configuration guide, documentation, release information, PPM BI content, PAM for PPM). It is a good point to start from.

Another option is to start with some FAQs for PPM 5.0 http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1377104

Especially for scheduling there is a collection of notes http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1085640

You can find a short survey about functionality of scheduling in cProjects in note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1145820

It deals with release 4.0 and 4.5 of cProjects, but scheduling is the same in PPM 5.0

Hello Peter,

When I release the task I don't receive any email regarding the task, but I am able to send out the emails manually.

Do you know any workflow related services that I need to activate in order to generate automatic emails to the business partners ?

Hello Mohan!

There is a menu entry in PPM customizing for workflows. Please have a look in transaction SPRO and follow this path:

SAP Portfolio and Project Management > Project Management > Basic Settings > Activate Workflows (or directly via transaction OOCU).

Inside this customizing point search the application component 'PPM' (open this one).

Afterwards you see the sub components (PPM-PFM, PPM-PRO, PPM-CF). For 'PPM-PRO' you can see a column with a link to "Activate event linking". Choose this link and you are prompted to events you can activate. WS 28700001 is a sample workflow event for "task released".

You must have done some workflow customizing before (SWU3).

This note has a nice "how-to" for activating workflow for change documents. It is similar to create workflows for "task released".

Hello Peter,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I think I have all required automatic workflow activated in SWU3.

I activated the service(s) you mentioned but it still doesn't send out any emails for released task.

Hi Mohan!

Have you gone through note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/843262 ? There are several other options, why the workflow doesn't send out mails, e.g.

- Customizing of SCOT

- e-mail adress for users (responsible role/user)

- e-mail adress for WF-BATCH

- Test the workflow with SWDD
