PPM Portfolio Bucket Structure - Best practise advise needed

Hello,

We are implementing PPM Portfolio in the company. There will be 1 portfolio for the entire group of companies. There are two options that we think are possible for structuring 2nd level portfolio buckets:
1) By legal entity companies (there are more than 10 companies in the group). Each company will have one 2nd level bucket (after the 1st level parent bucket).
2) By project type, like Business Development, Customer, Legally-Required, Maintenance Large, Maintenance Small. Each type will have one 2nd level bucket.
Depending on the option we select the other option will be used as classification hierarchy. Which way of structuring portfolio buckets is MORE in line with the best practice and has more advantages on later processes, reporting, etc.?

Egle,

From a SAP perspective there isn't a Best Practice in regards to portfolio structure. As you said the alternative hierarchy can be used to report the portfolio in the other dimension.

It's really a question for the accounting department, Controller, or CFO on how they primarily look at budgets.
