PPM - Find and Propose Next Open Number in ID field of a Portfolio Item

Hi Experts,

We have a requirement to build a Find and propose next open number functionality in the standard field 'ID' in a Portfolio item, similar in PS the system propose next open number for project.

Is there any BADI to achieve that?

Will 'Define Search Help for Portfolio Management' work? OR

Can we use BAdI: Maintenance Services for Portfolio Management Objects (ZRPM_OBJECT_SERVICES)?

Please suggest.
