Hi Experts,
I have a requirement to integrate PLC's with Latest PCO version(15.2). But all the available PLC's are old system and they have old OPC servers. Please find below are the PLC and OPC details.
1) Siemens PC7 Version 8.0- wincc OPC
2) GE proficy has OPC core components version 3.0
3) Honeywell - Doesn't have any OPC server
Is it possible to integrate these old servers with latest PCO 15.2 or do I recommend client to upgrade OPC Server versions.
Please let me know your suggestion on this.
Thank you!
Hi Sri,
1) Siemens S7-400 series - according to the siemens website winCC V13 supports OPC DA 1.0 and 2.05a - PCo supports 2.05a and 3.0 so this should work out of the box.
2) Honeywell ML200R - I assume that this PLC has a FENET extension module installed to allow Ethernet connections in which case you could use Modbus TCP if it has been enabled in the PLC or one of the 3rd party tools I suggested. If its has a serial connection rather than an ethernet one then Modbus RTU could be used but you would have to connect it to a PC or use a serial to Ethernet converter.
3) Proficy is not a PLC its a Historian - We have a native Proficy source system in PCo or you also have the options of using OPC HDA or OLE DB to read directly from the database.
Hope this helps

What models of PLC are you trying to integrate to?
Another method is to use one of the many middleware solutions that talk directly to the PLC using the native protocol of the PLC and convert it into OPC DA / OPC UA or has a dedicated PCo source system. For example deviceWise from Telit which has a custom PCo source available or Kepserver from Kepware that can convert to OPC DA / OPC UA.
Please note I am a SAP employee and that this is not an official recommendation for either of these products, there are many more available in the market place but these are the two most common I come across when I integrated to PLC's.
Hope this helps
Thanks
Kevin
