hi
I was trying to create a MSDS report for a specification from the specification work bench using Report -> Create report.
There I assigned a Generation variant and create a report, I get message that 1 report created.
but in cg54 I could not find reprot for the same. I checked in cg50, the report is generated with status generation Possible.
Following things checked:
Generation server is up and running
RFC test is ok
WWI is checked in cg5z, its active.
DMS setting for document type SBR and SBE are perfectly matching as mentioned in SAP note : 1091699 and 995736.
I have run the report RC1WWIWP manually in SE38 tcode , it says that:
Saving document data has failed.
Diagnosis
Saving data for document SBE WWI-00000000000000000506 00 000 has failed.
System Response
Generation was not successfully completed.
What am I missing?
Please help.
Thanks and Regards,
Niraj
Request clarification before answering.
Hi,
This may sound naive.. is the "Validity Area" and "Rating Validtity" on the generation variant the same as that maintained in the "Restrictions" for the Specification ?

hi
When checking it was found that DCOM settings were not enabled and as I did not had enough rights to change the settings, I tried the enrite scenario on different server where I had DCOM settings enabled, and it worked.
I could able to generate the reports.
Thanks to everyone who have helped me resolve the issue.
I am closing this thread.

Hi,
Seems that there is a missout of the path in MS word.
Please open MS word and open the options. Select file locations and modify the path. Path for the template has to be defined in the local system for saving.
This may solve your problem.

Hello NIraj
I am sorry to say that your problem could have a number of reasons which are not easy to identify and some could be related to EH&S version you are using. I have done a small OSS research.
May be these OSS hints could be of interest:
Note 788573 - EH&S WWI: Microsoft Word stops during generation
Note 1290765 - Report generation terminates due to "Special" rep. group
Note 1058521 - Error messages that occur during report generation
Note 1227489 - Report generation error due to repeating groups
I am pretty sure if you would do a lengthy research there could be more OSS hints which could be of interest.
To my experience this problem (or similar problems) occur from time to time in EH&S environment even if you have a stable SAP/EH&S system (no new OSS hint etc.).
One recommendation would be to use always the actual WWI release; furthermore sometimes the SAP access rights of the users (job user etc.) are not "correct"; sometimes by unknown reason the RFC connection SAP <=> WWI generation server is lost; sometimes a problem will come up in DMS (we have had such a case recently) or if you use an archive to store documents the problem could be there (once again: some OSS notes exists here too). Sometimes it is a problem with the Word version used on the generation server
If you do an research in internet you will find a number of Blogs; Forums etc. describing "similar" problems.
Could you please give a feedback on this:
a.) does the problem only happen with one special specification?
b.) does it happen only in the context of one layout and others are working
c.) does it happen on production etc. system (sometimes the develpment system have different set up)
d.) May be use the WWI build in functionality to do a trace of what is happening on WWI server (read the documentation)
e.) was there a change in layout before and the problem is now new?
f.) any new WWI implemented ?
g:) Activated a new WWI server (may be missmatch of RFC configuration (Unicode mode??))
Etc. Etc.
Hope that helps
With Best regards
C.B.

Hi Cristoph,
Thanks for such a eloborative answer.
I have seen all the notes that you have mentioned, but Ithink none of them is suiting to my issue.
I installed the latest WWI with patch level 21 from service market place, but that oo is not helping.
When I run the report RC!WWIWP in se38, I could see the word documents being processed on front end, but at the end of process I am getting message:
Saving document data has failed.
generation was not successfully carried out.
The feed back you wanted :
a.) does the problem only happen with one special specification?
it happens for all specifications
b.) does it happen only in the context of one layout and others are working
it happens for all layouts
c.) does it happen on production etc. system (sometimes the develpment system have different set up)
it is an IDES system
d.) May be use the WWI build in functionality to do a trace of what is happening on WWI server (read the documentation)
Getting no logs for any of the report in cg5z
e.) was there a change in layout before and the problem is now new?
no change in layout
f.) any new WWI implemented ?
no, but to cross check again installed WWI server again with SP21
g:) Activated a new WWI server (may be missmatch of RFC configuration (Unicode mode??))
With new WWI sever, tested RFC , its working fine.
I have gone through the threads you ahve mentioned and trying to check the DCOM settings.
By that time if you have any other information which you can share, it will be of great help.
Thanks and Regards,
Niraj
