Import document directly from substance workbench (CG02)

Hi experts,

I'd like to import a document directly using the new pushbutton "Import document" on the "User-Defined Texts/Docs" tab page in the specification workbench. 

I saw the SAP note # 1458628. I followed instructions and I carried out the required customizing.

However, when I try to import my document, I have the following information message:

"Special character * not supported".

Do you have any idea?

may the file name is "curious" (not allowed by Windows/Unix etc. rules)? Normally you prepare a "user defined text type" and make usre that you can upload documents. In EH&S/DMS Customizing you make use that the application is "known" (e.g *doc => WinWord, *.Txt => NotepAd etc.).

The document is uploaded direct into DMS, keys are generated and these keys are then displayed together with document type (refer to: http://scn.sap.com/thread/3249707). Then by double click with mouse the document is downloaded to client and normally the related program is started automatic (e..g Adobe etc.)

I have nether had a problem like you decribed in this context.

I guess my file name is ok: it a *.txt file. What is the EHS/DMS customizing activity you talked  to make sure the application is "known"?

I done the following EH&S/DMS customizing: Cross Application Components / Document management / General data / Define workstation application.

Is there anything else I have missed?

i read cross the OSS number you mentioned. I found no other related OSS note.I found no error in your configuration as explained by you. You have done all required steps. Let us think about potiential problems:

DMS: => if the document type etc. has been preapred as documented in the OSS this should be fine. I have never heard about any DMS problems with file name (of document to be uploaded) or type of document managed

EHS Customizing. no open issue in my opinion

Therefore only two options left:

1.) debug the process; may be you will find the place theer the error message is generated

2.) Start an OSS dialog with SAP

I would prefer 2.) because this might be a faster approach. I would be interested in solution of this (your) topic as we plan to activate EnhPack3.

There might be one work around which you could try to test but I am not sure if this is possible. This could be the "work" around

a.) use DMS functionality to upload the document direct => you will get a unique DMS key (please refer to the thread I mentioned)

b.) Now you can do a "direct" search in CG02 in DMS using the DMS key (there is a F4 dialog in the userdefined text dialog to do so; click in the "line" of the userdefined text)

I would be interested to get feedback if this workaround is useful/helpful

I started an OSS dialog with SAP about this problem. I will come back to you with the solution as soon as I got it.

I will try also to test your work around solutions to give you feedback.

Dear Christoph,

The problem was coming a wrong configuration of my document type link to my user defined text type. I maintened for it the number assignment 5 which means only external number assignment. As we can't enter an external number when uploading document, I changed the number assignment to internal.

No I have to define a correct data carrier: do you have any information about that?

The "data carrier" etc. are customizing decision to link EH&S, DMS and external archive (I found other links (Thread in this FORUM) there you have dicussed the topic by yourself)
