High availability xMII server configuration copy

We are setting up two xMII servers in a Hight Availability configuration. What files/directories do I need to ensure are copied between the main and backup servers so that the configuration is completely duplicated between them? I know I can copy the entire Lighthammer directory but that is kind of a brute force method. What is the more elegant approach?

Please also note the file SystemConfig.xml found in LighthammerIlluminatorConf

contains the Security Server URL of the machine.

Thanks. So this would be a file I would NOT copy between the primary and backup servers when updating their configuration. Are there others?

That's all you should have to worry about.

Hi Sparks - make sure if you do update any of the actual configuration files that you restart the ServletExec-xMII service since the initilization process is the only time that users/roles, data servers, time periods, etc. are read directly from the file system. Overwriting the configuration folders/files is a backdoor process that will not be automatically picked up by the servers since the standard editors and jsp pages are not used, which is why you would need to restart the service.

Version 12 is not an option. We will have to make do with a brute force file copy until the client chooses to upgrade.

I would give some serious thought to leveraging version 12.0 for this project, since the high availability features are all "baked in", and you have almost no custom conifguration or application work needed to achieve load balancing/failover.

Another option for you, although it might not be timely at this point in your project, is to use <a href="http://www.stratus.com/">Stratus</a> servers. They guarantee nearly 6-nines of up time (99.9997%). Among other things, it takes the headache away from trying to keep servers in synch.
