Handling SVT data for previous periods from old system in new system

Hello Experts,

We have a new SAP system in which SVT is implemented and need to start tracking of data very soon for regulations. However, we have tracking data from old system( which will be replaced with new one) for last 2 months which need to be considered for SVT tracking . So what would be the best approach in this case?

1. Can we take the data from the confirmed tables of old system for last 2 months( CCRCT_PU,CCRCT_PR,CCRCT_SO) and manually insert them in the new system table for same regulation, company code, material, specification ,track sub? Can i do an initial run and initial filling after inserting this data manually from old system or if it will create any issues.

Also is it a good approach to insert data in SVT tables of new system? Generally how in such situations SVT data is handled( old system data to consider/add in new system for tracking). Can anyone could share the experience if the old data has been handled with the tracked data with new system in SVT?

2. Take the data in excel for previous time-period and then add that with the tracked data from new system till end of monitoring period. Is this a better and safe approach?

Thank you for your time.

Regards

George

Dear George

there is some similar discussion in some thread.. but i could not find it now.

The "issue" depends on set up of the new system and set up of the old system (down to "coding level !! and not only to check "customizing"))

1.) Any "number" in the tables CCRCT_PU (e.g. material number, company code, plant code etc.) must ! be the same between source and target system

2.) Any number in the new system must stay like in the old (starting from now on)

WARNING: clearly you can try to "map" data from old system to new system.. but this is really time consuming... especially for the tables like CCRCT_PU etc.

3.) by using some "ABAP" development etc. You can "insert" data from the "old system" to the tables like: CCRCT_PU etc. This is customer specific approach

4.) The issue is "only". Is the logic (in the new system) (how to calculate etc.) the same as in the old system? in most cases: Answer is "no"

Regarding:

" Take the data in excel for previous time-period and then add that with the tracked data from new system till end of monitoring period. Is this a better and safe approach?"

The main issue is the "period". If you have stopped SVT in old system on 31.06 of a year and you would liek to go on with 01.07. in the new system: this is only possible if the WHOLE set up in SAP is 100% identical... and this is > 99% not the case. So persons acting have to take care for this "special" year (e.g. 2020) SVT topics in most cases "out side" of a SAP system (e.g. by using EXCEL etc.)

to make it short: business must decide what is the best approach (considering time regarding IT development etc.)

C.B.

Hello Christoph, Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, i agree that the decision from business is the key on how to handle the past data. However, I am equally bit concerned because the system set up may be not identical in both the systems. Let me check with business and based on the feedback, i would like to explore the options.
