Dear Suresh

The so called generation variant is the link to a WWI template. Therefore:

After maintaing data in EH&S using e.g. transaction CG02 you create a report (WWI report) by specifying the generation variant and a language. Now by using this data in connection with the "data" in the layout (WWI layout) the data from EH&S data base is retrieved and a so called raw report is generated (either by using "Create report" or by using "Report from template). By using "Create a report" you can use transaction CG50 to go on as with the WWI report a "status" net is linked to. At the end you will have a final raw report in the status "released" (which you can display using e.g. transaction CG54).

The generation variant is therefore some kind of "intermediate" object helping to define which data is of interest in the report. But the WWI layout is used to exactly specify the data which should later be part of the raw report.

Regarding Generation variant: please refer to:

http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_06/helpdata/en/a7/2871dc0a6c11d28a220000e829fbbd/content.htm?framese...

with the subchapters: "Generation Variant Editing" and "Document Template Editing" as well as "Document Template Layout Editing".

With best regards

Hi Suresh,

WWI Template -

this template is similar to script (or) smart form.

Script (or) smart forms ABAP coded to fetch the values from the database. In WWi, dealing with the symbols to fetch the values from database. No much ABAP technical knowledge required to deal with this wwi templates. If user have good hold on MS.word templates and with limited trainings in wwi functionality can deal with these templates. transactio code - CG42

further the symbols are differentiated into 3 types -

1. specification symbols - dealt with the EH&S module substance work bench database.

2. Parameter symbols - other than EH&S module (other modules of SAP)

3. Descriptor symbols - from phrase management

Generation Variant -

Name itself says, this is purely used for generation purpose.

for ex- If you want to print the same report in different languages, you need not to create multiple wwi templates. you can just create multiple generation variants to meet this requirement with single wwi template.

In generation variant, you can define the validity area, Report category, Language, Date and Decimal formats. transaction code - CG2B
