File format for high resolution grafics in WWI

Hello all,

In which file format and with which resolution is it best to use graphics for labels? I currently have a problem with some graphics from ISO standards (not GHS) which are blurred and blurred on the generated label. I have tried jpg, png as well as bmp. The graphics have an average of at least 500x500 pixels. The finished label or graphic is approx. 8x8mm. Could I also use vector graphics or what else could be the problem? I already use a lot of graphics and with others it works without any problem, the only difference in the details of the image file is the bit depth.

Thanks

Hallo Holger

To keep the memory required by report bodies in the document management system (DMS) (table DRAO) to a minimum, the graphics you insert should be optimized. Note the following:

  • Color palette and resolution

Reduce the color palette and resolution as much as possible and use the shades of gray format for monochrome graphics. Bear in mind that the Windows Wordprocessor Integration (WWI) program increases or reduces the size of a graphic automatically as follows:

    • To the size of the surrounding text box if no other text is included in the text box
    • To the width of the surrounding table cell

Choose a high enough resolution so that a picture remains sufficiently sharp after the size has been increased automatically. On the other hand, reduce any unnecessarily high resolutions if a picture is reduced in size in the report.

  • Condensed formats

If you use condensed formats such as EMF, PNG, GIF, or JPEG, the file size of the generated report bodies is disproportionately large if graphics were inserted. For reasons of compatibility with other RTF display programs, the content of text boxes is saved twice in the RTF document on a WWI generation server with Microsoft Word. The second copy is saved in WMF (Windows Metafile) format and is responsible for the increase in file size.

To prevent Word from saving two copies of the graphic in the document, use the Word option in the registry of the generation server PC by closing all Microsoft Office programs and using the Windows program REGEDIT to add the option ExportPictureWithMetafile=0 as a string in the following branches:

    • For example, for Microsoft Word XP

      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Options

    • For more information and a detailed description of the steps required, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base articles Q224663 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q224663/

Best
