Extending SAP EHSM Incident Management for managing Security Incidents

1,094

Hi EHSM Gurus,

I am new to the SAP EHSM module, having worked only in the Classic EHS.

My company wants to use the SAP EHSM Incident Management for managing Industrial Security Incidents. In the standard EHSM Incident Management we have the 3 Incident Categories, namely, Incident, Near Miss and Safety Observation, all using using the standard tabs. For Security Incidents, though the tabs like Assets, People, etc., are to be there, the field drop down values will be different. e.g., in the standard EHSM we may have (configured) People roles like Injured, Witness, etc., whereas for Security it could be Accused, Victim, Police, etc. We have done this in classic EHS where we used custom development for Security Investigation screens, in addition to using the Value Assignment Types, Classes and Characteristics, for the standard tab pages, and a separate external number range object. I understand that EHSM Incident Management is based on Business Objects and design is totally different from Classic EHS

Could anyone please explain briefly the steps required for creating a new Incident Category "Security Incident" with associated tab pages, in addition to the standard Incident Categories of Incident, Near Miss and Safety Observation.

Thanks in advance, with Regards,

Mohan

Hi Mohan,

To generate statistics based on Security incidents, you can easily create queries. You can easily separate out security incidents from the rest of the incidents by changing the conditions. It should not be a problem, We do not always use the data directly from the tables, we do lot of transformations and this can easily be accommodated. I believe for a Dashboard report convenience we should not invest too much time and effort to modify the default code making it inconsistent.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Jayakumar,

Thanks for your answer. I had requested the following clarification on your answer, please see my Comment on your answer. Could you kindly enlighten me on my Comment which is pasted below for easy reference.

One clarification, please.

If we manage Security Incidents with a new Incident Type under the category, say, for example, Incident or Safety Observation, using enhanced Field additions, will it create problems with the standard EHS Dashboard and statistical reports? When we are viewing the (Safety) Incident statistics, will not Security Incidents be also counted thereby giving incorrect Safety statistics?

Mohan

Hello Mohan,

Creating a new incident category is not possible in standard functionality and is not recommended, you need to rewrite code.

Managing them under one of the Incident Categories like Incident, Safety Observation and Near miss with necessary Incident Types will be easy. I suggest Even if it is security related incident it can be used in one of the categories of Observation say. Use existing categories and enhance the fields with Field additions using BOBF / FPM modifications and associated field controls.
