Emailing Functionality - MSDS

Hi,

Had few questions around MSDS as part of EHS Module.

1. Wanted to know whether emailing MSDS is standard functionality or custom code in SAP?

2. Will this functionality be available in SAP S4 HANA as a standard functionality?

If there is any other insights on MSDS, it would be very helpful to understand standard functionality around MSDS.

Dear sanket

1.) by using customizing and taking care regarding a number of topics to send SDS/MSDS via eMail is standard. Please check the corresponding OSS note (which is mentioned very often here);

2.) here we can only use "assumptions". We can assume that SAP is on "track" to "reengineer" EHS e.g. to simplify e.g. EHS data model; but it is known that some EHS functionality is not present (and will not be present) in S/4. But we can expect that the option to send via eMail will stay (as this is more or less company standard).

Thank you for your response and it was very helpful.

In regards to # 1, can you point me to the corresponding OSS note that I can read about SDS/MSDS via email where it states that it is standard functionality in SAP R/3.

In regards to # 2, I agree with your answer and it is only an assumption or hope that SAP is on "Track" to reenginner EHS module to be more simplified because I was not able to find much about it as only Simple FI has been released in terms of what is being changed. I know there are some things as per simplification list that I read where certain functionality of EHS will not be available but nothing specific in regards to SDS/MSDS and we are also assuming that sending via email will state as standard functionality in S/4 HANA.

do you have further information about the re-engineering of the EH&S data model? This is the first time I'm hearing about such an initiative.

this is what is clear: in S/4 HANA we can expect:

a.) no EHS WASTE module any more => no successor available => loss of functionality !!

b.) No EHS IH module any more => here we have EHSM => changed functionality

etc.

c.) no EHS-OH module any more => no successor available => loss of functionality !! => THIS HAS CHANGED NO ! EHS-OH is now an "Add on" in S/4 HANA

With S/4 Hana we will get e.g. 40 characters long material numbers etc. There is currently one SAP OSS note available looking on SVT topics. Here because of S/4 HANA changes has been done.

According to my understanding. SAP Fiori will be the tool to log on to S/4 HANA; those who know a little bit here. This Tool / User Interface use a more "role" orientied apparoach. BUt what is the "real life" in EHS now?

You don't know really. One person can be responsible for maintaining all (and many variants here)

for some subparts of EHS i could imagine to have a specifc SAP fiori interface as they are "simple" E.g. this is CG54, CG50, CVD1, CBRC20 etc. here you have only "one" functionaly embedded in one transcation.

BUt as you know: CG02/CG02BD are the core piece of EHS. Here we have then links to e.g. ALE: Expert rules, WWI reports, CG54, CG50 ..... etc. etc.

We can assume that SAP will do something in EHS classic. PLease check SAP marketplace or use SAP direct contact to get the different currently available variants explained.

At least: SAP ERP is supported by standard until 2025. Using extended maintenance you might use this thei until 2030; but it is obvious that there is only on "low level" any additional functionality to expect in EHS area in SAP ERP. (and only if the e.g. legal need is high enough)

This is great article that you have shared about Product Safety and Stewardship Solution from SAP.

I guess I would be more interested to see when they release the updated version of simplification list beyond 1611 SP2. I know article mentions that it would be part of core solution in S/4 HANA for both on premise and cloud version, but would be interested to see when they would be releasing it and what version it would be available. This way, it would be helpful for us to decide in terms of our implementation strategy in our organization to get the latest and greatest version of S/4 Hana version.

i believe: anybody is now more or less in same situation as you. We know. we will get a solution; we don't know: at which point in time? and: Is there some "migration" to be done to move to S/4 HANA? will it contain the same functionality...

For SAP EHS IH answer is clear. We have to migrate.

The only chance is; follow any SAO EHS conference and try to collect information (or get in touch with SAP direct if needed).
