document template status inside PPM

Hi PPM colleagues,

I´ve set some document templates for portfolio item as well projects. (done manually inside PPM UI)

once I manage to insert a document inside a folder, how can I influence the status field? is it a customizing step that I need to do? actually is locked, nothing can be inserted or changed inside the file.
