Direct SAP Table Queries through BAPI?

There is a table in SAP that I need to retrieve data from. I vaguely remember in 11.5 from over a year ago, that there was a BAPI that you could do a query against an SAP table, but don't remember which and can't seem to dig it up. I think someone in the Exton xMII office developed a template transaction that could be used for this purpose. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
