DG filling of Density, when a range

Hi all,

It appears that DG filling of the density value does not occur if the density is a range. (e.g. 1 - 2 g/cm3). Other fields such as pH can contain a range and are filled with no problem. I have two questions:

1. Where is density used in DG? (documents?)

1. Why is the range not permitted? My guess is because Density is used to calculate mass, and you should have an exact value if you want an exact mass.

2. Is there a way around this, or must the density be exact?

Thanks

Dear Scott,

density, flash point and other VATs which are part of DG master does have the same behaviour. You are not allowed to use "ranges". pH does support ranges? Mhh must check that. Ok But coming back to your question:

a.) density is (to my knowledge) not used in documents but is used to check "filling" of transport tanks etc. (in most cases we are talking about liquid issues)

b.) you guess is "nearly" correct. If I remember correct. the denisty is used as well to check if liquids can be filled in a tanl (and to make sure that there is some "free" place)

c.) density must be exact; no chance (if i remember corret: flash point is the same)

To make it "more complex: you can maintain three density values (if you would like to do so). If I remember correct: 15, 20 and 50 °C (and you need to maintain these "special".. This is a matter mainly of handling liquids ad gazous materials (so that e.g. Tank is not "exploiding"during transort)

What are options? As teh "problem"3 exist fopr a long time you can think about of "enhancements" of DG filling. e.g. if value "1 - 2" is maintained you have to decided: which value you would like to use.

a.) you can store "1"

b.) you can store 2

c.) or may be "1,5"

This can be done within DG filling (after enhancing it) But alternative

You maintaih twio data record. One like "1-2" for MSDS/SDS pruposes and a different one with e.g. "1". You need only to make sure that the "1" value dies have a usage with a rating which has "higher" priority for DG filling

Hope this helps

Thanks Christoph. I was actually pursuing one of your suggestions already.I created a rule whose intention is to output a second data record  with a higher rating (DANGEROUSG). It will read the density range and output the lower value. Picking the lower value would be the most conservative approach. (because then it would result in the highest volume).

About the pH - I was told by the users that they could enter a range and it was ok - however I should have looked further, because pH isn't even a piece of data that is stored by DG filling! So this statement is irrelevant now.

However, flash point is picked up by DG filling and when I enter a range in the property tree, and DG filling takes the lower value by default. It is too bad it does not do the same with the density.
