De-installing xMII?

Former Member

Hi everyone,

I encountered some problems with a local xMII-installation (WinXP) and since I could not find any de-installation option, I manually removed the Lighthammer, inetpub ad Servlet-folders - which, unfortunately, does not fully delete the installation, since now I am not able to re-install it*

 • When trying to install the SAP install gives me the following two dialog boxes:

"Could not create SAP xMII install log in C:\Lighthammer\logs" and

"The install cannot locate the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ on the local machine. Please enter the correct web root directory in the dialog provided."

Any help is highly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Christian Staalby

Go to Start -> Control Panel, alternatively go to Start -> Run , enter "control" and click on OK. In Control Panel Select "Add Remove Programs". Try Un-Installing as many of the following entries that appear in the list :

- SAP xMII 11.5

- SAP xMII CMS 11.5

- SAP xMII Security 11.5

Now try reinstalling xMII. If it doesn't work write back and i'll try to help

For some reason I did not see this option myself - as it turnsout, my "manual" de-installation caused some other MMC-related problems...

Thanks anyway - your answer solved my initial problem

What exactly is the problem you are facing now ? Were you able to reinstall xMII ?

No, I am not yet able to re-install - the SAP Install stops at "The install cannot locate the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ on the local machine. Please enter the correct web root directory in the dialog provided"...

Hi all,

I got it done by some other way....

And atlast xMII is working now.

I stopped the iis admin service from command prompt

enter the command: net stop iisadmin

It stops successfully. And I reinstalled xMII with out problems.

Once it is installed I found that I can access my service.msc and I restarted iisadmin.

Underlying logic is not yet clear, will be helpful if some one explains me this behaviour

Thanks Abesh and Christian for ur inputs

Hi Abesh,

I followed the procedure described by u.

And I tried installing xMII again.

Installation failed demanding me to stop the IIS admin service.

But I'm not able to open any .msc files now.

error is:

MMC cannot open the file C:Windows\system32\services.msc

"This may be because the file may not exist,is not an MMC console,or was created by a later version of MMC.This may be because you dont have sufficient access rights to the file."

My problem is very much related - only I am not able to open the compmgmt.msc-file. Strange, because I am able to enter the Microsoft Management Console if I just run mmc.exe.

Part of my "manual de-installation" was to delete the ServletExec-xMII service - I propably should not have done this, it seems...

HI Ajitha,

Regarding your problem: you propably need to copy the services.msc from another computer to the System32 folder. I did this for the compmgnt-file - it was apparently corrupted, but now it runs again.

I managed to re-install xMII - however when entering http://localhost/Lighthammer/Menu.jsp I get a "The page cannot be found"-error.

Any hint, whny this is happening?

Kind regards,

Christian

Hi Christian,

Please check whether a wwwroot folder exists under c:\inetpub and write back ?

It does - and I managed to get the xMII re-installed. However, it cannot display any page, when I try to launch it. I noticed that in Microsoft Management Console, the Default Web Site under Internet Information Services, is not running and I am not able to start it.

Do you know what could be the cause of this?

Kind regards,

Hi Christian,

Can you try the following steps and report back ?

- Uninstall xMII : From the Control Panel as I had mentioned in the previous post.

- Uninstall IIS : Under Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs, select the "Add Remove Windows Components tab. Here, browse to the "Internet Information Services (IIS)" entry and uncheck it. Click on Next and then Click on Finish.

- Reinstall IIS : Do the same steps as above, but now "CHECK" the "Internet Information Services (IIS)" entry, click next and then finish.

- Reinstall xMII

I found a solution for this behavior:

IIS is using port 80 for the Default Web Site - which is the same port used by Skype. So, shutting down Skype (or any other application using port 80), made it possible for me to start the Default Web Site and thus access the xMII.

Mission accomplished (finally)...

Thanks to everrbody for input (points awarded).

Hi.

I have seen this problem

MMC cannot open the file C:Windows\system32\services.msc

"This may be because the file may not exist,is not an MMC console,or was created by a later version of MMC.This may be because you dont have sufficient access rights to the file."

when trying to uninstall xMII on a Win2003 server. In this case, you need to download and reinstall MSXML3. This will fix the problem.

Hi all,

I'm stuck up with the same problem.

Is there some procedure for uninstalling xMII?

Deletion of folders and register entries cannot be the exact solution.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Ajitha
