Dear Yash
your questiotn is quite general. In http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-41109 you will find some links to similar threads.
Topics is on high level this one:
1.) you need to prepare a basic set up of EHS with e.g.
a.) authorization groups
b.) identification types
c.) specification types
d.) propery trees
e.) component types
f. ) sources
g.) phrases
etc. etc.
2.) then you need to map data structure old new
3.) then e.g. phrases need to be set up (using import)
4.) and later specification
Then normally you need to map "materials" to tghe specifciaoitns (without that EHS is nearly "useless")
After that you have defined the "Target" structure. Now you need analyse your "source structure" and do mapping etc. After that normally standard EHS import is used to populate EHS database with the data
Normally the primary csutomicing set up is done within 6 months; and the data migration can need (depending on amount, complexity etc.) as well 6 addtional months
Please check this FORUM. SAP seems to "deliver"/"Support" still the "DataEditor"; this tool can be used as well to populate the data base
