Hi Amol,

As the RAW material is DG relevant, DG checks are activated automatically.

Hi Ravindra

Raw Material is not salebale material...so what's the use of DG Checks..

iF we have not assigned the DG Profile in material master, then DG Check will not get activated...

but being a DG Material, i Think we need to maintain UN Listed Substance & DG Classification for the same

this is my view.,,

Please guide me whether it is correct or not?

Thanking You

Hello Amol

the standard material types used by SAP are linked to some standard SAP business process. The RAW is (to my knowledge) used in the context of buying some material to be stored in a plant. Now if the RAW describes a "chemical" product to be used in a chemical process (to generate a new material/specification) then there could be cases there a DG classification makes clearly sense. E.G. there might be the need of a stock transfer of one RAW material from plant one to plant two. You do that often by using a "transport" in most cases. So it makes sense to classify RAWs regarding DG to check whether the transport is allowed or not.

Further on if the RAW describes a chemical you will get in most cases a MSDS and there you will find chapter 14 with some DG classification of the supplier which you can use within you company or based on furthere data could be "overwritten" in your SAP system.

Therefore in most cases you need "only" to generate a link of a RAW material to a REAL_SUB which describes the "chemistry" and which is the key point to start the DG classification/filling etc.

Hi Amol,

Little addition to the opn from C. Bergemann, u said it is raw material and not salable, 2nd thing it is DG. If it is raw material for other industry/ process/ activity, then it realises some commercial value. Besides the transportation / conveyanace of RAW also added cost on either side. Then the raw must be looked as either by-product from a producer/ co-RAW for the end user. It involved monetary invlovement, i suggest to look for more details. No vendor will give away the raw if it is not contaminated/ incurring significant cost to dispose the D.G.

when it is decided as D.G., i support ur opinion to raise the D.G. classification and follow the treatment in SAP.

with regards,

mahesh.

Hello Amol,

1) What the treatment should give in sap for that. I undersatnd that it is not salable materials so DG Checks must not be req for the same.

2) Raw Material is not salebale material...so what's the use of DG Checks..

Dangerous Goods are materials, those during movement may pose significant threat to humans, material and environment. The purpose of SAP EH&S u2013 Dangerous Goods Management is to help in applicability of those regulations and preparation of necessary documents for safe transport like Bill Lading, Transportation Emergency Cards.

Dangerous Goods checks can be carried out right through sales and distribution. You can carry out checks right during any transport stage like Packing, Loading, Shipping, Transporation, Receiving and Unloading. So even though a material is not salable, if it falls under Dangerous Goods class due to its flammability, toxicity, reactivity, oxidizing, Toxic or infectious characteristics you need to manage proper transportation route and carry necessary documents.

3) If we have not assigned the DG Profile in material master, then DG Check will not get activated.but being a DG Material, i Think we need to maintain UN Listed Substance & DG Classification for the same.

In DG profile you can check whether a mateiral is DG relevant, DG document relevant, DG Check relevant or one time material so on. Based on the appropriate profile necessary checks are either carried out or documents are generated.

For every DG Material, you need DG Master to be generated with you need to prepare based on UN Number u2026. Linking to DG Class and which is inturn linked to Real Sustance and Real substance has Material link.

Thanks
