Couple of basic questions

Hi all

I'm just looking at using EHS-DGP and maybe EHS-SAF and  I have a couple of questions.

  • From reading a lot of the documentation available, I understand that I can use the DGP module on it's own but I wouldn't then be able to use a lot of the EHS Classes and Characteristics as these are party of EHS-SAF. Am I correct in thinking this ? The result of this would be that I could still flag the material as a Dangerous Good in DGP but it wouldn't have a Dangerous Goods classification associated with it and all the data stored against that classification. Is this correct ?
  • Also we want to store information related to the composition of a semi-finished good after a chemical reaction. Obviously the initial components would be in the BOM, but we want to store the composition of the final product that is produced. Would using Bill of Substances in EHS-SAF be the best solution as we don't want to create or change anything related to the BOM.

Any help with these would be a great help.

Cheers

Alistair

Hi Alistair,

1) That is correct

2) As I understand, the BOM contains the pre-reaction compounds and you want to store the post-reaction compounds. Is my understanding correct? In tha case: There are  a lot of different compositions available in EHS; one of them is the exact composition base don starting materials which would correspond to your BOM, i.e. pre-reaction, whereas the exact composition based on products contains those compounds that are actually contained in the mixture, i.e. post-reaction.

Dear all

1.) only as an add on to what Ralph has explained.

If you need to fulfill 1.) and 2.) at the same time you need to use EH&S DG and EH&S SAF.

2.) as Ralph has explained: you can use one value assignment type to store the BOS which corresponds to the BOM and a second value assignment type to store a BOS which is in your case different in comparison to the forst BOS if a chemical reaction happend. If no chemcial reaction happens you need only to mainatain/sore one BOS (clearly). From perspective of legislation always the BOS afetr mixing or after reaction is the important one (e.-g. in context of DG, MSDS generation etc. etc.) and not the BOS which corresponds to the material as input to generate the new material liked to the REAL_SUB
