Copy & Paste functionality

Hi Gurus,

I want to use the copy and paste functionality to move a few templates from DEV to QUA. But the copy and paste buttons are grey.

Did I have not all authorisation or should be something installed to make this functionality available.

Because the templates are exsisting in the target system I can not use the Import/Export functionality.

Please help me!

Kind Regards,

Tülay

Hi Tulay,

A word of caution, though: Never, ever copy and paste templates! This may lead to serious issues if you have Z-symbols coded in the template. If the version already exists, make a new one and import/export, it definitely is safer.

I am trying to use the import and export functionality.

But I am getting an problem.

The export file contains a report symbol in language TL (Tagalog) which is converted to #.  This is shown in table TCGA7. This can not be read by importing the file.

I dont know how to correct the file or the template.

Could you help me?

Kind Regard

Hi Tuelay,

I'm not sure I understand your problem. Report symbols don't "have" languages, they are just symbols. Please post a screenshot of that part of the template that causes the problem.

Hi Ralph,

While importing the template I realised an error.

This is an extract from the import file.

Problem is on the last line where SAP replaced the two character language description 겿 (TL) with one character language descriptionis #. SAP has problems by exporting and importing this character, so SAP replaces this symbol with # in the export file. This causes the error and the import is not possible.

I really dont know how to correct it.

Hi Tuelay,

Seems to me this is a Unicode problem. I believe that during export you need to tell the system about the character code; this must be set to Unicode (UTF-8). Don't open this file with a text editor!!! You will screw up the code. Then again during import the character code must be set to UTF-8 as well.

Hi Ralph,

I dont have the option to choose the unicode(UTF-8) during export.

Hmm, I'm at a loss here. Anyway, I'm sure that Unicode is the magic word here. When you open the import file, can you manually replace the # with the one-letter code for Tagalog and then do the import?

With which program should I open the .dat file?

I opened it with text editor replaced # with the code for tagalog and text editor change it to â–¡.

And also this ends with conversion error.

Yes, of course. The Text Editor cannot do Unicode. You need to use one that is able to do unicode, however, I don't know one that does since I never open unicode files. Try Google is all I can say.

Hi Tulay,

Follow the steps below to export and import the templates.

1. Select the Released report template, copy with the new name in transaction CG42 and release the report.

2. Export the template directly from there, ensure that name change for the template with file type .dat

3. Check for the job status in transaction CG3E. It shoudl be in finished status.

4. Use the transaction CG34, to import the template as a .dat file.

5. Select the character standard UTF-8 for Unicode in CG34.

6. check file and transfer.

Hope this helps. Let me know still you have any issues.

Hi Kamal,

I´m using following steps:

1.    Export released template from CG42 -> File is exported to the application server (AL11 – Temp folder) as .dat

2.    Download the template from application server to file server -> on Temp as .dat and .doc

3.    Upload the template from file server to application server( other system) -> as .dat and .doc

4.    Use CG34 to import the template from application server.

If I use UTF-8 than I am getting following message:

Whats going wrong?

Hi Tuelay,

This is because the .dat-file has in one of the top rows the character standard MS-NT, whereas you are telling the system that it is unicode (UTF-8). As a last resort, you can try to open the dat-file, change the MS-NT into UTF-8 and then do the above steps again.

Hello,

this does not work. While importing the file Im receiving an internal error message.

Problem is that export functionality dont allow the selection of the code page. If SAP adjust the trancasction CG42 and add this function it will work without any problem.

Actually the export uses MS-NT as character standard, this cannot work with korean characters which are in my template. If I have the possibility to select UTF-8 as expoting standard character and use this also for importing the file, it will solve the problem.

Now I am exporting the template without report symbols which cause the problem and add them after the import to the template.

This is not best-practice but it works.

Thank you all for your replies.

HI Tulay,

Could be different reasons for this.

Refer to SAP Notes - 866032.
