Configuration Management from ECTR

Hi,

I am seeking an understanding of Configuration Management aka Variants in ECTR.

I have an Solidworks assembly with multiple configurations. Once that is imported to ECTR, I can see the Variants and can create the Materials and BoM accordingly. This will be for the Variants which have been defined already.

As a process, the request for the final product (BoM) will come from Customer (which may be different from the above Variant) which will then be derived from the multiple variants and options available in ECTR. How can this BoM be derived for this top level assy? Is it a mandate that we do it from PSM Window? Need clarity on this topic please.

Thanks,

Prashanth

Hello Prashanth,

the PSM window is not required to derive a BOM.

You are writing "which may be different from the above Variant". Why is the "designed" BOM different than the "ordered" BOM? Are you having more like an ETO - Engineer-to-Order scenario? Or do you have all variants/options designed in Solidworks and its related Bill-of-Material before (-> CTO-Configure-to-Order)?

I'm not sure, if this can be discussed in all details in such a forum.

Hello Gerhard,

Our Business users have multiple configurations of a single product based on Customer demand. Right now, for each configuration, they create a new number (both assembly and child) which is used in ERP for Manufacturing. We are now implementing ECTR and the thought is to utilize Configuration Management of Solidworks. Once an assembly is created and imported to ECTR, it creates a Doc structure which comprises of all variants and options which is basically the 150% BoM.

The questions here is: Based on the options selected by Customer, how can I derive the MBoM out of the above BoM (similar to PSM selection)? Once that is derived, how can I create drawings for this specific product assy since there is only 1 DIR for this Product in ECTR?

Thanks,

Prashanth
