BDC is normally not supported in EHS. Doing the job now for a long time.. there was never the need to investigate here... from my point of view.. i can not see a benefit..
Honestly: never investigated here. Always used the standard approach to move a WWI template from dev to qual to prod and then change status (if needed). There was never the need to search for BAPI/API etc. to do the job.
I tried BDC, like open template check ,save and release. BDC not working only 'For Checking' Status templates. its working for all other statuses Templates.
