Capture Opex costs in SAP-PPM

We are on PPM 6.0.

We are required to show the costs posted in cost center, into the Financial Planning View.

We do not have a PS WBS to pull these costs from.

In summary, the opex costs posted onto cost centers are to show in SAP-PPM, without the PS WBS to pull that cost from.

What os the way out?

Hello Deepak

You need a source object to get these costs from - in standard the available objects includes PS Project (WBS elements), as well as PM Order,Internal Order, etc. You can take a look at all the Object Links under Base System Interfaces -> Define Object Link Types.

In my opinion you have the following options:

1. Use Internal Orders (Easy to use/maintain)

2. Create Opex PS Profile with related costing/budgeting/settlement sub profiles to ensure that only Opex related costs are posted

3. Create/Investigate the link between Item and a custom Object Link to Cost Centre.

Options 1 or 2 would be my recommendation since the standard exists to handle this

Hi C, thanks for your inputs.

In the configuration screen where we map the Financial Groups/Views to cost elements, the screen provides an option to map the Financial Groups/View to Cost Centers too. And in one entry (row), one can map either to Cost Elements or to Cost Centers (not both).

Any idea on this that you can share? From the look of what the screen shows, it looks like this mapping (that we are looking for) is in the standard. Or is it not that straight forward. As stated, we are on PPM 6.0.

Please advise.

Hello Deepak

Mapping to cost element, cost centre and even activity type is possible as you have stated; however, as to my understanding and experience, you still need an object link type - i.e. a main object in which these costs are represented.

These object link types are standard defined under the config node I specified in my previous post - examples include Internal Order and PS Project. It therefore does not seem possible, in standard at least, that merely doing the mapping to cost centre by Financial Category/Group as you mention will provide the functionality you are looking for. Am I understanding your requirement correctly? You want to show costs posted in cost centre in PPM but do not want to associate the cost centre to a PS project or Internal order or any other valid object link type. This is not possible. You need to run via an object link type

Does this clarify?

Hi C,

Thanks for your response. It definitely sounds logical.

I will explore (and this includes seeking business inputs) about what cost collector (if not a PS WBS) they could approve of, to have these costs captured. Internal Order is an option they might go by.

Will share once I have some more inputs.
