Can't Assign a Child Spec to a Parent Spec if Change Number of Parent Spec is older

Hi Experts, Need help.

We have a Parent Spec with Change Number date valid from 01/01/2022.

and Child Spec with Change Number date valid from 01/01/2023.

We are not able to assign the Child Spec to Parent Spec unless we change the child spec "valid from" date to older (ex: 2021). Because Child Spec is not valid at 01/01/2022 (Parent Spec date).

I believe SAP should validate a Spec with current date. Means, Parent Spec or Child Spec is valid "Today" (Valid TO date > Today). Instead SAP is taking "Valid From" Date is Key date.

Is there any solution to solve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

1.) read this chapter carefully https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_ERP/c4e98fcb44e74814b58b61aefc1b1fcb/24a6ce5314894208e10000000a174cb4....

2.) Regarding your topic:

We have a Parent Spec with Change Number date valid from 01/01/2022.

and Child Spec with Change Number date valid from 01/01/2023.

We are not able to assign the Child Spec to Parent Spec unless we change the child spec "valid from" date to older (ex: 2021). Because Child Spec is not valid at 01/01/2022 (Parent Spec date).

This is an option to go on (I have not used change numbers since years because of the many issues in "practical" use).

1.) Use CG02/CG02BD and select your "parent spec" with key date (in Edit mode) => 01.01.2023

2.) Navigate e.g to a property like "Legal Composition" and try to generate a new data record

3.) In doing so: you can search for a "spec" (e.g. your child spec). As you are using the "key Date" => 01.01.2023 you should be able to find the child specification

But now there is an important topic to understand: it is not allowed to change data in "history"

Example: today we have 28.06.2023. So the "key date" you can use must be "equal" or "bigger" than "today" (current date).

If you use this approach you should be able to identify the "child" and use the child spec in e.g. "Legal Composition" on parent spec level

THERE ARE NOW MANY BUTs !!

If you then try do a "research" you must !!! PAY ATTENTION WITH THE KEY DATE. It can happen that if you use the "wrong" key date what you can not find the "child" to be "Child" of "Parent

YOU SHOULD USE CHANGE NUMBERS ONLY IF YOU HAVE VERY HUGE experience in using EHS; they are very tricky to be used and you can get many "issue" if you do not understand the concept of the change number

In daily business normally you are not using a "Change number" (it is not needed).

Change numbers (and their use) are rarely discussed here.
