Assign equipment class automatically when creating serial number/ equipment

Dear all,

How to enable the assignment of the equipment class automatically for serial number/ equipment?
Now the equipment class have been assigned manually in IE02 for all serial numbers. As per our business process we create serial numbers within production order and it would be difficult to assign equipment class manual to every seril number if one of the production order has more than 50-100 pieces.
It would be very helpful if the equipment classes were automatically assigned when the equipment is created. As we find out that for batch classification it is possible to assign the batch class to the material master and then every batch that has been created with this material has automatically batch class gets assigned.

My questions:

1. Is it possible to assign class automatically to the every serial number/ equipment? If yes, then how?
2. Is there any other alternative to reduce the above manual work?
