Hi,

I was checking with Alarm query and I noticed I need a Alarm Connector for it. But I don't have any server installed for it. Is there any downloadable link from where I can install the AlarmSuite for working with Alarm query? Also if you know any general details about using this, Kindly share.

Regards,

Harini S

U need not install this separately since this is default Server which comes with xMII Installation.

To be able to view this server u need just to make this server 'enable'. To do this, Open <b>Data Servers</b> under <b>Data Services</b> option in the xMII Menu, then uncheck the checkbox (Show only enabled servers) to get that default server 'AlarmSuite', then select this server from the list and make this enable. And save

Hi,

I made a copy of AlarmSuite, didn't make any changed. Just enabled it. But the connection status shows 0. Why is the server not getting connected?

When configuring AlarmSuite for use with SAP xMII insure that Microsoft SQL Server is configured to listen on TCP/IP as the transfer protocol. Enabling SQL Server to listen on a TCP/IP link is the optimal approach and can result in a modest performance increase in many cases.

Hi,

Which SQL server I have to configure? There is already SQL running on another macine and the connection status of it is 1(successful). What do you mean by SQL server listening on TCP/IP protocol? Have you tried using this approach and configured Alarm Server successfully?

Hi,

I have already checked that document. Since I had doubts regarding that, I have started this thread. Kindly share your thoughts on this.

Harini,

I just want to make sure we're not all putting effort into this for no reason.

The AlarmSuite Connector is really only to be used with AlarmSuite software. If you are not connecting to AlarmSuite, you really don't need (or should not be using) this connector.

Are you truly trying to connect to AlarmSuite?

Hi,

I didn't mean anywhere that the documentation is not at all helpful. Everyone including me are truely using these help documents. But please understand, it is normal that we may not understand few points and ask the experts to give their views on it. That is the reason for this thread also.

Actually we are trying to work with the AlarmQuery and so need the AlarmConnector. But when we tried enabling the default AlarmSuite server, it is not giving the modes in the Query template. That's why got a doubt if Wonderware® AlarmSuite as mentioned in the document has be installed separately or if shipped with xMII already. Kindly clarify.

Thatz y i dont force u to install that software WonderWare AlarmSuite separately since we as far have not faced this plus have no recommendation with the process of installation of WonderWare AlarmSuite.

Hi,

Thanks for that confirmation. So I understand that no installation is required. But if I just enable it, I get the AlarmSuite server listed in query template but I don't get any modes listed when I am trying to create an Alarm Query. Can you give me a hint where I am going wrong?

Harini,

We would not have had to waste our words IF you had really gone through the help documentation or listened to what Ryan had said.

You do need the Wonderware Alarmsuite Software for the AlarmQuery Mode to work, and in case you do not know Wonderware is a company who specialises in low level shopfloor connectivity and MES systems, so the Alarmsuite software can be obtained from them and is not bundled along with xMII.

Did you actually bother to do a google search for Wonderware Alarmsuite after Ryan's answer ?

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks a lot for that answer. Even I had googled about the Wonderware AlarmSuite before starting this thread. Since I didn't find any download link online, I started this thread to get the link if someone knows. U can check my question also. But the confusion started because of Som's answer since he mentioned that it is a default server with xMII. Now it is clear. Thank you all for spending your time in sharing your thoughts.

Harini S
