Activating valuation split for existing material code

Hi,

We need to activate split valuation for existing material code with stocks, batchs, sales orders and purchases orders (We are in SAP AFS PEK)

I have read that data linked to materiel to be modify must be deleted.

Could you confirm that there is no alternative solution? Due to volume, it is complicated for us to delete all datas related.
