With SAP Enterprise Product Development and S/4HANA we are on the mission to enable an highly integrated Idea-to-Market process based on a cloud-native architecture. In my last product update we brought in a new cloud capability to keep E-BoMs and M-BoMs synchronized. With the release 2208, I am excited to announce a new capability to manage enterpise product structures in the cloud. In addition to that, we delivered enhancements throughout different applications to give product development teams a delightful user experience in their daily work.

Define

One aspect of engineering a product is to understand what the constraints are. In this release, during system modelling activities, systems engineers can evaluate their instances. This new feature supports the evaluation of trade-offs while selecting the solution that best fits development requirements. Systems engineers using the systems engineering diagrams will notice an update to the navigation. This allows you to explore all objects in the navigation panel and quickly navigate to their target. When engineering any product, communication between engineers is key. With this release, systems engineers can create a communication box in the canvas to add more information for requirements objects and even colour code each box to your own needs.

Develop

Product development teams often lack integrated tools to manage the lifecycle of product structures. The highlight of this release is the brand-new Enterprise Product Structure in SAP Enterprise Product Development, which will support product development teams to create and manage modular product structures, being integrated with the S/4HANA Bill of Material Management capability. This integration will enable product centric companies to reduce time-to-market of innovative and sustainable products. If you are interested to have a sneak peak, Martin Bachmann, presented a short demo in our last PLM webinar:

Deliver

Visual communication plays an important role more than ever, and users simply expect that today. In the 2208 release, product visuals can be shared and distributed between users more easily by generating a QR code directly linking to a visualization in SAP Enterprise Product Development. In addition, visualization now supports the upload and conversion of additional 2D CAD formats including CATIA V5 Drawings (.CATDrawing), NX Drawing (.prt), SolidWorks Drawing (.SLDDRW), CREO Parametric Drawing (.drw) and Solid Edge Assembly (.asm) and Part (.par, .psm, .pwd)

We know that visual collaboration is an important part during product development. While SAP Enterprise Product Development already offers visualization as part of a collaboration to perform redlining activities, now, design teams can store measurements within collaborations as part of conversations. You can also measure angles and areas in 2D & 3D models, greatly aiding in communicating design changes or product development intent.
