Analysts suggest, that “digital transformation is driving the decision making and the business impact across the value chain1

Let’s briefly go through the global trends, which greatly influence the Product development and Service delivery in an industry:

  • Consumption preferences

  • Personalization

  • Shift towards an outcome-based model

  • Continuous product innovations

  • Ever evolving products

  • Environmental consciousness and sustainability

  • Globalization and its spread

  • Changing regulations and policies

  • Process automation (i.e. ‘need for speed - do more with less’)

  • Faster time-to-market than ever

To cope with these global trends, each industry has to put its best foot forward, and needs to embark on the digital transformation journey. The sooner the better.

The success of industry depends on the products they develop and the services they provide. The right innovation strategy is a key success factor. There is a definite need to overcome silos and collaborate better, which naturally requires better interoperable systems. So, to streamline the value at stake, it is today more important than ever to create an end-to-end digital thread in the cloud across the value chain. This also helps the Top Line, Bottom Line, and Green Line in keeping pace. Refer the value opportunities:

Hi Ayan,

Thanks for the insights on the EPD benefits.

As I understand from the SAP EPD Admin guide ( it provides function for Connecting to SAP S/4HANA On-Premise. But if the customers who are working on SAP ECC currently and want to get benefits from SAP EPD, how will it work? Does SAP EPD provides standard connectors to push/pull standard business object data (eg. Asset Master (EQUIP, FLOC etc)) directly from ECC to EPD and viceversa?

Hi Tilak,

Thanks for reading the blog.
The function to connect from SAP S/4HANA On-Premise is available. However for the other sources, in principle, the possibility is – as long as there is a REST or OData API/service, which is accessible from internet which can be called, and the data can be used (JSON) as it is received back.

Please let us know, for any particular use case, which needs to be looked at.

Hi Ayan,

Thanks for the response.

We've subscription to EPD, with plan as tandd and trying to connect to S4HANA 2021 (non-productive) as a datasource. We've gone through the EPD admin guide and followed the s4HANA connection steps for Visualization- Associations scenario but no success.

If you can share any document/ blog having detailed info on prerequisites, configuration steps (in backend (s4HANA) and BTP (cloud connector) etc.. will be very helpful.

Once we are able to achieve above use case, we will try with ECC EHP7 as datasource for similar setup to read data from sap db (eg equipment master, material master etc.). We are not looking for IAM as a backend datasource for these use cases.

Best Regards,
