Companies in asset intensive industries such as Oil &Gas, Utilities or Chemicals are challenged by an increasing number of complex asset construction and maintenance projects. Such projects are planned and executed on multiple layers which requires project scheduling tools that can handle such complex project structures. Engineering teams often use for this purpose specialized project management tools such as Oracle P6 or Microsoft Project to handle the complexity of multi layered project schedules and milestone tracking .

Let's take an example. A project manager who needs to create a new project task in the project plan has to specify and assign an corresponding Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to this task.
