2022 marks SAP’s 50th anniversary, and given my role in the Operational Excellence, Cloud Acceleration team with Enterprise Product Development, I got the opportunity to have a front seat to witness the true spirit of innovation in action at the co-innovation day for the solution, making this year even more special to me.

SAP Enterprise Product Development's adoption of the Co-Innovation idea is a particularly intriguing example of a successful innovation initiative at SAP. The team uses a holistic approach to think about co-innovation with the product ecosystem – that could often be customers, partners, industry experts or even competitors in other areas at the same time.

The co-innovation day was a follow up event to the SAP Enterprise Product Development Customer Council 2022, where the team showcased our innovations in detail and dived deeper into the capabilities of our solution, in both discrete and process industries.

April 7th kicked off with the product leadership team sharing the team’s co-innovation strategy and the customer influence program. What was particularly interesting is how the product now has a feedback button for all end users to share their direct feedback with the product team.

The participants were then given options to join dedicated co-innovation discussions with the product owners of various capabilities of the solution. The discussions included preview of in-scope topics, end-to-end preview samples, open discussion on topics, usability, and priorities, to name a few.

The second half of the Co-Innovation Day was all about product usability testing, and participants got a chance to rotate among the breakout rooms and get a hands-on experience and discuss with the subject matter experts and product owners. The day concluded with an open feedback exchange on the overall co-innovation day engagement, followed by closing remarks from the product leadership team.

The ever-evolving landscape of enterprise software demands re-invention to survive in the competitive market. In most scenarios, SAP software is integral to a company's day-to-day operations as well as long-term strategic planning, so there is little leeway for guesswork when it comes to SAP solutions. As a result, incremental innovation ensures that risks are mitigated by involving SAP's stakeholders throughout the whole innovation lifecycle. And ‘innovation without disruption’ is a key focus for the SAP Enterprise Product Development product team.

The team plans to continue the customer council and co-innovation engagement and the next iteration is planned in the upcoming months of September, October, and November – this time around offering a more flexible and spread-out registration and joining options. Stay tuned to the SAP Enterprise Product Development Community page. If you have any comments or feedback about the engagement or the blog, please do share using the comments section.
