Introduction
Many of you might use transaction CG02 or CG02BD to maintain data. Some of you might assume: I am an expert in using these transactions.
But this might be an error and you will get quite challenging results if you do not pay attention.
Maintenance concept in EHS
For several reasons: you can use a "Change number" in maintenance process. For details, Refer to "Online Help"
This can be done e.g. in maintenance of specifications, phrases, dangerous goods master, WWI reports etc.
The use of a "Change number" during maintenance is a big challenge... You should use a "Change Number only, if you know what you do.
I relation to the Change Number the so called "Key Date" is of some importance. This key data you can select in CG02 / CB02BD (as an example).
As long as you are in "Display" mode; this might be fine; but you must pay attention in "Edit" mode.
If you use the "Key Date" the application will ask you some questions. Pay attention on your answer ! especially if you are willing to use the "Edit" mode.
E.g. it can happens that you have selected a "Key Date" in the past (in comparison to today). Now if you switch to "Edit mode" you start some maintenance.
This will have an effect for the "date" for which the data maintained should be valid.
Therefore: It is recommended: Check your "Key Date" before you start "Edit Mode" !
Recommendation
ONLY USE CHANGE NUMBERS IF YOU HAVE UNDERSTOOD THE CONCEPT !!
