Streamlining Dangerous Goods Packaging with Enclosure Variants
In the world of logistics and transportation, ensuring the safe and compliant packaging of dangerous goods is crucial. A new feature in the Classify Packaged Dangerous Good app is set to simplify this process by automating the assignment of enclosure variants to packaging.
The Specify Descriptions of Dangerous Goods Packages configuration activity now includes an Enclosure Variant column. This addition allows configuration experts to assign specific enclosure variants to dangerous goods packaging. When you select a packaging option in the Edit Packaging Details dialog, the system automatically determines the applicable enclosure variant.
When dealing with UN-certified packaging, the system can suggest the following enclosure variants based on the packaging details:
This feature not only enhances efficiency by reducing manual input but also ensures compliance with international safety standards. By automating the selection of enclosure variants, businesses can focus more on their core operations while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.
Embrace this new feature to streamline your packaging processes and ensure the safe transport of dangerous goods.
We can see here the dangerous goods regulations for our demo product. All unpackaged classifications are here and released.
Additionally, we have a list of related packaged products, but the classification is still in progress.
Here is the mass functionality available within dangerous goods, and packaging is now included as well. The system takes the 5 product and determines the enclosure variant and basic package classification for each. This calculation includes all regulations, all languages required, and dangerous goods descriptions.
Now we see the enclosure variants are filled except for the tank because under IATA, transport of tanks is not allowed. Therefore, this variant needs to be set manually.
Now we have the results, including automated calculation of the Transport Permission, and can check to ensure that everything is correct. You can release them all together saving time and money.
CFR 49: New Provisions for Vessel Stowage
Navigating the complexities of hazardous materials regulations can be daunting, especially when it comes to ensuring compliance with the latest updates. For those involved in the transportation and handling of dangerous goods, understanding the nuances of CFR 49 is crucial.
CFR 49 refers to the Code of Federal Regulations Title 49, which governs the transportation of hazardous materials in the United States. It outlines the requirements for packaging, labeling, and stowage to ensure safety during transit.
Recent updates to CFR 49 have introduced additional provisions specifically for vessel stowage. These are detailed in column 10B of the hazardous materials table found in §172.101. The aim is to enhance safety measures for the stowage of dangerous goods on vessels, ensuring that they are stored in a manner that minimizes risk.
To assist with these changes, the compliance requirements have been updated to reflect the new provisions. This includes the addition of fields such as "Other Provisions According to Regulation" and "Other Provisions for Product" in the Classify Dangerous Good According to CFR 49 - Unpackaged Product (F4566) app. These fields are designed to help users classify and manage dangerous goods more effectively, ensuring adherence to the latest regulations.
Staying informed and compliant with these updates is essential for anyone involved in the transportation of hazardous materials. By integrating these new provisions into your processes, you can ensure safer and more efficient operations. Mixed loading check rules for the dangerous goods regulation CFR 49 for road and rail, supporting:
We have a product which needs to be stored away from alkaline compounds, and now we can easily add this information here. This allows for separation of products which have the same UN number but have different requirements for transport.
Here we see a dangerous good, with the special stowage status of “stow separated from foodstuffs” while within the same regulations we can have non-dangerous goods foodstuffs which is labeled as Foodstuffs, Vegetable Oils. The mixed loading check then allows that these 2 products could be on the same sales order, however we would be informed by the system that these products cannot be shipped together.
Within the View Regulatory Data – Dangerous Goods app, there is now information on packing information for ADR with regards to combination packaging and much more, you can find more details here.
For the classification of partially packaged dangerous goods, let's start with a bit of background. "Partially packaged" refers to items like liquids in plastic 1-liter bottles. For transport, you might place nine of these bottles into one fiberboard box. The bottle, as the first level of packaging, is considered partially packaged. This distinction is crucial because regulations for dangerous goods require additional outer packaging for safe transport.
When you edit packaging information in the Classify Packaged Dangerous Goods app, you can select the new "Partially Packaged" checkbox in the Packaging Details section. This option is for dangerous goods that need extra packaging before transport. Since these goods are enclosed only with inner packaging, you only need to enter information for the applicable inner packaging.
