Singapore RoHS 2016

In August 2016, the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) in Singapore published the amendment of the second schedule of Environmental Protection and Management Act (known as Singapore RoHS or SG RoHS). The amendment is adapted from EU RoHS 2 and will restrict 6 hazardous substances in some electrical and electronic equipments (EEE) from 1 July 2017. [Source: ChemicalWatch news].


Scope of Singapore RoHS


SG RoHS only applies to the following 6 types of electronic and electrical products (excluding spare parts and components which are sold separately).

  • Mobile phones
  • Portable computers
  • Air conditioners
  • Panel TVs
  • Refrigerators
  • Washing machines


Other types of electrical and electronic products such as industrial use equipment, medical devices and microwaves are excluded from SG RoHS.

Singapore RoHS Restricted Substances


Singapore RoHS restricts the same 6 hazardous substances as EU RoHS 2 except for phthalates.

Detailed concentration limits are listed as below.


  • Cadmium(Cd) and its compounds: 0.01%
  • Mercury and its compounds: 0.1%
  • Lead(Pb) and its compounds : 0.1%
  • Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) and its compounds: 0.1%
  • Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB): 0.1 %;
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE): 0.1 %

Under EU RoHS 2, certain applications and products are exempt from above restriction limits (For example, Cadmium in helium-cadmium lasers). Singapore RoHS plans to harmonize the full list of EU-RoHS exemptions with the exemption list under SG-RoHS.
