In December 2012 the European Commission published the results of the public consultation on Delivering more Sustainable Consumption and Production. The consultation aimed to gather opinions on possible EU wide measures related to Sustainable Consumption and Production, Green Public Procurement (GPP), the Environmental Footprint of Products (PEF) and the Environmental Footprint of Organisations (OEF).
Participants in the consultation favoured, among others, the harmonisation of sustainable consumption and production policies, the improvement of Green Public Procurement (GPP), a voluntary environmental performance labelling scheme rather than a mandatory scheme, the preparation of a voluntary EU Code of Conduct on the use of environmental claims, the improvement of the EU Ecolabel scheme through simplified criteria and increased awareness or further EU action on Environmental Footprint of Organisations (OEF).
The outcome of the consultation is intended to guide the European Commission in its future actions to implement its 2008 Action Plan on "Sustainable Consumption and Production and Sustainable Industrial Policy" and its 2011 "Communication on a resource-efficient Europe".
