Hello,

I'm going to be upgrading our 4.2.9 clustered environment to 4.3 (in-place).  I am aware of the need for new licenses.  What I'm unsure of is when I need to apply the licenses and the impact of not having licenses even if temporary.  I've read that I should remove the old keys first and then add new keys:

  • Do I remove the old licenses before I even start the 4.3 upgrade?
    • If so, what if I can't do the upgrade when planned?  Can I still get into the environment with no licenses associated with it?  Would the SIA start?

No need to remove the BI4.2 licenses prior to the upgrade.  But you should request the new license keys and have them ready when you start.

I honestly don't remember if you're asked for the key during the upgrade process; I don't believe you will be.  But if not, you will definitely be able to log in to the CMC afterwards to apply the new key.  The SIA and CMS will start, and you'll be able to log in with any existing user account.  You just won't be able to create new users or use most of the applications until the key is applied.
